Jamie talks about his family background, his upbringing in New Jersey, his early interests in folk music and blues, his beginnings with Irish music, fiddle, meeting Laura MacKenzie at Beloit College and her influence on his musical development, attending Macalester College and playing highland pipes in the Macalester Pipe Band, Liz Carrol, the Chieftains, the Dayhills, Martin McHugh, the Plough and the Stars, visiting Scotland and Ireland in the 1970s, Comhaltas tours, recording musicians, visiting Josie McDermott, visiting the McConnells in Fermanagh, the Four Seasons in Dublin, transcribing tunes, the Fleadh Cheoil, Bobby Casey, Miltown na nGael, the Northern Star Céilí Band, differences between contra dances and céilís, visiting the O'Briens in Tipperary, local session pubs, living in Ottawa, Walking on air, local performance venues, old time music, Paddy O'Brien, Rhythm in Shoes, musical influences and fiddle tunings. |
